Subject: capture visitor interest with Web audio
How important is Web audio for capturing the attention? Try to imagine
a car salesperson with no voice, or a politician with no microphone—how
difficult would it be for them to capture and hold your attention? Studies have shown consistently that the
first minute a user is on your site, the decision is made either to explore, or
to leave.
What doesn't work
Other methods have lost their effectiveness: the click rates of banner
ads have steadily declined, users are no longer drawn toward motion for its own
sake, and pop-up and pop-under windows are despised. The large publishers have
added sound to their ads and sites, in an effort to capture the attention that
the other methods no longer command.
What works
You may not be one of the "big guys," but with SWF Audio it's
easy to capture visitor interest. To get started, think of the ways in which
Web audio can add information, warmth, and emotion to your site. Below are a
few examples of possible approaches. The idea is to use Web audio to draw the
user deeper into the site where they can make a purchase decision.
- Real Estate: If you are a realtor, offer an audio summary
of featured houses. Before committing to reading lengthy or acronym-laden
text, your visitors can sit back and listen. All the while, your unique
personality will be promoted.
- Retail: If your merchandise has unique sound
properties, feature those on your site. A motorcycle site, for example,
could provide a humorous feature in which visitors can listen to, and vote
on, the sounds of various motorcycles being revved and idled.
- Politics: Campaigns come and go, but how many
citizens attend events where they can listen to candidates speak? A
Web-savvy candidate will record as many speeches as possible for posting
online. Feature your latest speech on the front page, so that your lazy
visitors visitor can get to know you.
- Interviews: Want to conduct interviews for your
site, but don't have the time to write the articles? Just record and post.
If you are a journalist, add the interview audio file to your Blog for a
fuller treatment of the subject in the article.
- Fashion: Offer a link from your home page to a
weekly fashion tip from "Our Fashion Expert." Mention specific
items in your store to give your listeners another reason to browse your
inventory.
- Company announcements: If you are tired of having
your press releases ignored by the public or the press, announce the
latest news on your home page using Web Audio.
- Customer Endorsements: Make your customer
endorsements available online, in the customer's own voice. There is
nothing quite so compelling.
Use the SWF Audio system to add audio to your site that
will capture, and hold, the attention of your visitors.
